Presentation to Brother Derick of his Affiliation Certificate by members of the Arthur Oliver Lodge 10703 and the PGP Bro Tom Jones ROH in 2023

Brother Derick Haywood ROH HM PGP 1987, has passed away peacefully at home after a long period of  illness borne with great dignity and courage. The thoughts of his Minor Lodges,  Provincial Grand Lodge, Knights Chapter & ROH Assembly are with his buffess Marguerite and family at this sad time.

Brother Derick, was initiated by the Wolverley Lodge, in the Worcester Province on 25th November 1966. It was there, in August 1970, he was raised to Primo.  In the same year his work commitments facilitated the launch of a new factory meaning his family relocated to Telford, Shropshire.  When living and working within the Wrekin Province he affiliated to the Richard Brereton Lodge, representing them as a PGL Delegate.  In August 1973, he was raised to KOM.  Moving westwards to South Wales with his job in 1974, he affiliated to the Loyal Loughor Lodge in the Swansea Province.  He also represented them as a PGL Delegate and in February 1979 was elevated to ROH.  In 1980, he returned to Kidderminster, coming together, once more, with his Mother Lodge.  In 1981, he was back in Telford, this time he plumped to join the OD Murphy Lodge 6977 which later bestowed his Honorary Membership.  He quickly assumed wide-ranging Buffalo pursuits within the Wrekin Province initially as a PGL Delegate and then for several years as a PGL Officer.  In 1987 he was elected as our Provincial Grand Primo and President of the Examining Council.  He represented the Wrekin Province at Grand Lodge meetings and conferences as a Delegate from 1987 until deciding to bow out from this and book examining duties in 2015.   In 1973, he joined the Knights Chapter and was elected Secretary in 1983, (a post he held for 33 years), also serving as its President in 1991.  A founder member of the Wrekin Province ROH Assembly in 1998 he held the position as Secretary until 2015.  He was elected ROH President in 1998.  Brother Derick served as a Provincial Grand Lodge Trustee for 25 years and was a very active member of his beloved OD Murphy Lodge, the Ironbridge Lodge and all Bridgnorth Lodges over the years until the COVID era took hold.

Bro Derick has inspired many Brothers in the Provinces he has worked within.  He has led an extremely busy and noteworthy life, helping to raise money for countless charities and organised lodge outings galore over the years (back in the day often driving the bus!). He thoroughly deserved the respect of his colleagues and peers as well as the many honors bestowed on him during 60 plus years of unbroken compliance. In the last year of his life, whilst confined to his bed at home, he was still visited regularly and kept in touch with Brethren to keep him abreast of Province news and its social functions. He was always quick to donate raffle prizes and bottles of cheer until he passed away two days after his 89th birthday. Brother Derick Haywood ROH HM was a distinguished stalwart member of the Wrekin (Shropshire) Province and an ambassador of all things Buffalo, that will be dearly missed.

                                         ========================================================================================

Brother Barry Hodgkinson ROH HM, who was a stalwart member of the Cyrils Ladd & Carline Lodge 9387 and long standing servant of the Province and all it's committees passed away peacefully on Friday 25th October. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and buffalo family at this sad time.

Brother Barry was a member of several Minor Lodges in the Province over a long and distinguished Buffalo career. He was always a steady hand and great committee man, which saw him consecutively voted as a Minor Lodge Delegate to PGL and onto the PGL Executive Committee for many years. These trustworthy and steadfast values were harnessed in his election to will and pleasure offices of Trustee, Treasurer and Secretary of his lodges, notably in the Cyrils Ladd & Carline Lodge, which he attended faithfully until declining health kept him from attending after the covid period. Brother Barry was elected as our Wrekin Knight Chapter President in 1993 and also held the honorable office of Examining Council President in 2000. His dependable character, comradeship and sense of humour will be dearly missed by the Brethren and all who knew him.

Seen above is the Late Brother Eric Jones ROH showing Bro Keith Porter ROH tips and tricks on how to do it with the camera.

Brother Eric Jones ROH, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with long term illness.

Brother Eric was a member of many lodges in the Province over the years but notably of the Noel Jones Lodge 10600 and was their delegate to Wrekin Provincial Grand Lodge for many years. His time on the microphone at Grand Lodge meetings will be fondly remembered by many past Grand Primos for his sense of timing and oratory skills. Bro Eric was a past PGP of the Shrewsbury & District Province and a founder member of the Shrewsbury Castle Tom Scott 10680 Lodge. He was duly installed as the inaugural PGP of the neighboring Shropshire Provincial Grand Lodge in 2019.

He was a strong family many with large family that he doted on, that are in our thoughts and prayers at their time of loss. His lifetime in the Telford area has an amazing insight that can be found in the Blog page of this website.

Brother Eric was the creator of this Province website and was always acutely aware on the need to advertise the Buffs and present us to the wider public, so that the unenlightened could hear the Buffalo message of who we are and what we do. His talents in this direction have left a rich foundation and legacy for the future, in the hope that a few mouse clicks could lead to a  conversation that could lead to another Brother in the ranks. He was a keen photographer and was always there to capture the spirit of local Buffs functions in fine detail. His never ending fundraising, zest for life and wide ranging lifetime of service to his minor Lodges, Provinces and the wider community will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
